Chapter Ten
Trent and Rusty pulled together some soup from leftovers and sandwiches from what Rusty had brought over. He was nervous after Reed’s declaration. The man usually got what he wanted, and Trent would be lying to say he didn’t find Reed attractive, but Rusty had his love.
Reed shed his suit jacket and Trent did a double take. “Dang, Reed, have you been working out?”
Pink tinged Reed’s cheeks and he nodded. “Yeah, I kind of wanted to impress someone.”
His body heated as he realized that someone was probably him. “Oh.”
“Don’t worry about it. I’m happy that you’ve found a guy who makes you happy. So what are you going to do with this place? I know before you came out here, you were planning on selling and heading back to Atlanta.”
Trent glanced at Rusty, his heart squeezing when he thought of leaving this guy who had come to mean so much. “I’m not sure what I’m going to do.”
“So honestly I didn’t just come out here to see you,” Reed said.
“Really?” Trent asked as he set the bottle of wine on the table before pulling out three wine glasses that he’d found when he unpacked one of the boxes at some point in the last week. His grandfather’s place was well stocked in the dishes and silverware department. It was more than he thought he would ever need, heck, this place was much more than he would ever need.
“No, though that was one of the big reasons I came and not someone else. Anyway, I have an idea and it might sound crazy, but it’s something we discussed in the last board meeting.”
Rusty carried the soup to the table and Trent helped him get the plates and sandwiches set. He was curious about what Reed had to say. Trent sat at the end of the table and Rusty sat to his left, Reed sitting to his right. The table, like everything else was huge. They were huddled together on one end, the rest of the table looking empty.
Reed narrowed his eyes and shook his head. “I never should have waited on asking you out. Damn, and you two look perfect together. There’s no way I have a chance.”
Rusty laughed and Trent scooted closer to his boyfriend. He liked Reed, but he had no idea that Reed had felt that way about him. If he’d known, he probably would have put a stop to Reed’s attraction, or maybe he wouldn’t have. Now he didn’t know what he would have done because he was with Rusty.
“This place is huge and wouldn’t need much work,” Reed said as he looked around.
“It’s nice—big. I don’t know how many people want a place this big out here. It’s kind of scary having to be responsible for this land and this house. I know the shelter needs money, but it could be a while before it sells.”
Reed took a spoonful of soup and moaned. “This is good. Trent, did you make it?”
“No, I did,” Rusty said.
Reed nodded then smiled.
